SIXTH GRADER FINALIST IN NASA COMPETITION

(11/30/2006)
A South Charleston Middle School (SCMS) student is one of 12 national finalists in a contest sponsored by NASA.

He is the only finalist from West Virginia. Lets pull together and show what the youth of West Virginia can do!

You have the opportunity to vote for the people's choice. You can vote for Adam Richardson by going to NASA's web site at   www.explorationpodcast.com

On the lefthand menu, pick "audio podcast finalists." His is Adam's Podcast.

Adam is a member of the Universal Explorers, a science club for 6th grade students at SCMS. Working with the club's advisor, Dan Cosgrove of Calhoun County, Adam wrote and then recorded a speech answering the question: "How will space exploration help you in the future?"

The Universal Explorers is getting many accolades from educators throughout the Kanawha County School System for the authentic scientific studies being conducted.

Meeting weekly, the club has participated in teleconferences with Mars Scientists at the Arizona State University's Mars Space Flight Facility, conducted experiments with Mars Landers, examined the makeup of craters and canyons, the physics of rocket flight, and the many aspects of space exploration. Students also competed in the 9th annual Capitol Pumpkin Drop-with both of their entries landing successfully.
