An outbuilding that caught on fire sent huge billows of black smoke skyward yesterday evening on Sand Ridge, threatening a nearby garage.

Quick action by the Arnoldsburg VFD brought the blaze under control, saving the garage.

The fire ignited a grassy field, and firemen and volunteers had to extinguish that fire.

The fire was at the Art Johnson property, about one-eighth mile off US 33-119 at Sand Ridge.

Arnoldsburg firemen responded to the call at 4:26 p.m. after first responding to a cellar fire at the Bunch residence at 4:08 p.m. in Millstone.

Fire quickly spread into grass in a nearby field

Reports said there was an explosion in the cellar. The building was only smoldering when firemen arrived.

The causes of both blazes is unknown, but officials are investigating.

The Upper West Fork VFD also responded with Calhoun EMS.
