The Creston auction will be held December 2 starting at 6 P. M. at the Creston Community Building. Bobby Ray will be bringing down his usual goodies as well as Christmas items. Those who want Amish bacon, pepper bacon, fruit pies (individual ones for dinner pails) and extra amounts of pepperoni and cheese should call Alvin Engelke early at 275-3578 so advance orders can be placed.

Rev. Juanita Lockhart filled her regular appointment at the Burning Springs M.E. church. The church agreed to participate in the secret Santa program again.

Keith Hall is now at the Willows nursing home. On Thanksgiving Day he was able to converse with family and did well.

Anna Engelke, Jane Engelke & husband Wilbur Schenerlein spent Thanksgiving with their parents in Creston. Also calling there were Susan Myers & Mr. & Mrs. Todd Rhodes & daughters. Anna also visited her sister & husband in Vienna.

Some Buckeye boys were out Sunday evening searching for venison with bright lights. One ended up under their chariot doing damage to the steering causing the driver to lose control. The chariot (above) ended up over the bank at the head of Rock Camp. On Monday Rick Mason's towing had to be summoned to extricate the vehicle which ended up on its top.

It was learned that cross bows are now the favorite for after dark hunting which is why one seldom hears late night shots during poaching season.

Rick Dobbins, John Rose & Bill Bickridge were found hunting on a local resident's property and when asked who gave them permission (they had no permits) they said that Sam Goins, the game warden, had given them the OK. Brian Vaughn was also found to be hunting without a permit and he said that a former co-worker said he had permission.

Don Rhodes said he didn't go hunting that there weren't any deer but his car was seen out and about in several locations.

The Annamoriah Cowpoke reported that a nice 8-point was killed near Ghost Hollow but that another took it in.

Older residents may remember the joke about movie harlot Liz Taylor, "Why did Liz trade off her Cadillac for a Lincoln?" The answer was, "That's easy, she got tired of body by Fisher." Well it seems that a local damsel whose ancestors were in the Battle of Monmouth tired of her oil field man and chose a fellow whose ancestors fought at Yorktown and in the War of 1812 allowing that a man with such a warrior background should be a great lover. Well, it seems that she tired of "Der Fenstermacher" and has now taken up with a member of the Sidwell clan.

There will be a flea market, a white elephant sale and a dip and donate dinner Saturday, December 9, starting at 1 P. M. at the Creston Community Building. Table rent will be $10 with all proceeds going toward the Creston Area Neighborhood Watch. For details contact Donna Sue or Tammy McFarland.

The Creston Christmas dinner will be held December 16 at the Community Building. One should bring a covered dish. Donations are needed for children's gifts, etc. For details call Connie at 275-3519 or Rose at 422-6430.

The price of local Penn grade crude fell $1 on Thanksgiving day to $55/bbl while October natural gas dropped to $3.83/MCF the lowest in quite some time. It was reported the Audrey McClendon, the big honcho at Chesapeake, recently made $500 million hedging gas when he purchased $6 gas to cover the gas he had to deliver at $8. One can only wonder how much someone made on the Creston area $3.38 natural gas.

Warren Drilling is making hole for Artex & Buckeye up on Deaver's Fork. The coalbed methane folks are planning a core drill in Gilmer County and other areas of Calhoun County are being examined.

To the north in Pennsylvania there is drilling interest in the Bald Eagle, Marcellus, Utica shale and the Tuscarora. Terry Pegula's East Resources who now operates most of the old Pennzoil leases has been drilling Trenton/Black River wells in New York and many more are obviously planned for West Virginia.

Dominion Exploration & Production, part of the old Rockefeller Hope Gas Company indicated that they plan to become more active in coalbed methane and Devonian shale production. The company plans 360 new wells next year.

It should be noted that warmer days have brought out the government ladybugs (Asiatic beetles) again.

Charles Russell reported that the folks from Elizabeth fetched a special Thanksgiving meal up to him & Euell. Others have been taking their food.

Those who would choose to think that there are no problems in the world would do well to take notice of the killing of the Russian dissident in London by the use of radioactive Polonium, a substance that cannot be purchased at Wally World or K-Mart. The Russian supreme leader, a former secret police agent, was fingered by the victim. It is clear that America must maintain a potent, modern military machine to protect our nation.
