Two people died in a fire early Saturday morning that destroyed the Jerry Bailey residence on Clay Road

The body of a Spencer woman has been identified as one of the victims.

Frances Stump, 46, burned to death in the trailer with a second victim identified as Richard Braskett, 51, of Millwood, Jackson County.

Officials indicated the couple were visiting the residence.

The State Fire Marshal is investigating the blaze. Both bodies were taken to the State Medical Examiner.

Reports indicated three other individuals narrowly escaped from the mobile home on Clay Road (Rt. 36) a few miles south of Spencer.

A 911 dispatcher who received the call at 2:25 a.m. said he could hear smoke detectors going off, then the phone went dead.

The Spencer-Roane VFD reported the mobile home was fully engulfed when they arrived.

Firemen had to lay about 500 feet of hose
across a bridge and up a hillside to the residence

Firemen shuttled water tankers through the early morning hours.

Funeral arrangements for Frances Stump will be completed at the Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home in Spencer.
