COMMISSION APPROVES $3 MIL REVENUE BONDS FOR MINNIE HAMILTON IMPROVEMENTS

The Calhoun Commission approved the issuance of $3,000,000 in revenue bonds for Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center to make physical improvements on their complex at Grantsville.

Frankie Parsons, an attorney working on the bond sale, held a public hearing regarding the proposal

CEO Barb Lay said "Making the long overdue improvements will help us move forward," indicating many areas have not been improved since the construction of the hospital.

Lay said the building really needs a new heating and air conditioning system, window replacements, fire alarm system, technology equipment, roof drainage, and parking lot expansion, among other items.

"We hope to build a safer and secure landing pad for HealthNet choppers," she said.

The money package, being issued through the county's building commission, will also create a savings through refinancing.

"The revenue bonds create no liability for county taxpayers," said commission president Larry McCallister.

Lay said "We're grateful for the community support to take care of these overdue needs."

- A report was given regarding progress on the Family Court Building, which is expected to be occupied in early 2007.

- The commission approved Sheriff Carl Ballengee's request to hire Brenda Dickey full-time.

- A Road request name by Ellen and Delmas Wade was delayed until the appointment of a new 911 Director.

- The commission officially approved a roster of Wood Festival committee members.

- Further preparation has been made to seek a walking trail for the Upper West Fork Park.

- The commission is attempting to obtain estimates for the replacement of steps in front of the courthouse.

- The Employee Handbook Committee will meet today regarding updating and revisions.

- The commission donated $138 to Cabell County regarding a court case that benefited Calhoun regarding regional jail costs.

- Representatives of the Mid-Ohio Valley Regional Council met with Clyde and Judy Knotts of Arnoldsburg who are seeking mitigation funding for lifting their dwelling out of the flood plain.

- The commission was advised that the county remains in the black with operating funds at the end of October with $365,000.

- The next commission meeting is December 11th.
