CALHOUN'S NEW 911 CENTER NEAR REALITY - Commission Will Hire New 911 Director

(11/14/2006)
Calhoun's move to the new 911 Center behind Calhoun Middle-High School has been scheduled for November 28.

The 180' tower is already in place and antennas are currently being installed.

Most of the electronic equipment has been put in place during the past few days.

The new center is a long-time project becoming reality, and has involved significant volunteer efforts from a number of individuals.

Head dispatcher Burl Postalwait said 911 calls will be shifted to the Arnoldsburg VFD for dispatch, with the transfer expected to take place in less than one day.

During yesterday's Calhoun Commission meeting, a decision was made to create a new job description for a 911 Director, which will likely result in a paid position.

With current state funding available for 911 services, the commission will likely advertise for applications for a new 911 Director, following the resignation of Dave Johnson.

That position will likely include responsibility for the completion of E-911 addressing and mapping.

After significant problems by the State of WV to complete state-wide addressing and mapping, each county will receive a lump sum of left-over money in an effort to complete the project.

The commission re-appointed Jerry Riggs to the 911 Advisory Board.
