ROANE FATALITY TWO-YEAR-OLD CALHOUN CHILD

(11/11/2006)
A child, almost two-years-old, was tragically killed in a two-vehicle collision on Arnoldsburg Road in Roane County last night.

Samantha Dawn Pearson, daughter of Kimberly Tanner of Arnoldsburg, died on scene after the vehicles crashed. Samantha was a passenger in a car driven by Gary May, Jr., 16, of Arnoldsburg. The infant was in a car seat behind the driver.

Several ambulances, fire and rescue trucks quickly responded at 8:20 p.m. to the scene on a straight-stretch of US 33-119, near Dependable Pipe Company.

Firemen and rescue workers used extraction devices.

A neighbor said "The debris was everywhere."

The child's mother, Kimberly Tanner, 23, and Merissa May and Delta May, about 11, were passengers in the car. The driver and May girls are children of Gary and Veronica May of Arnoldsburg.

All the occupants of the car were either treated and released from Roane General or did not require treatment.

The name of the driver of the other vehicle has not been released.

Police are investigating the accident.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Stump Funeral Home in Arnoldsburg.
