| US Senator Robert C. Byrd has easily won a record 9th term, capturing at least 65% of the vote against Morgantown businessman John Raese.
Byrd overcame a challenge that proved costly to Raese, who spent roughly $2.2 million dollars of his own money, running around-the-clock negative ads against the aged politician.
Multi-millionaire Raese bought full-page ads, appearing in an expensive suit and shoes, holding a gun with his finger on the trigger, saying WV needs "A New Gun in Washington."
