EARLY VOTING POPULAR WITH 256 VOTES CAST - Low Turn-Out Expected

(11/04/2006)
Early "no excuse" voting, just like fast food with no lines, ends today at 5 p.m. at the County Clerk's office.

Not that there would be lines in Sunny Cal.

At noon yesterday, 256 Calhoun voters had cast their votes.

173 Democrats, 83 Republicans and 5 other parties.

County Clerk Richard Kirby says "Unfortunately, there may be a very low turn-out," for the off-year election, with only a few competitive races.

Whether Calhoun residents will continue a levy to support the county's only library, is the only local concern.

The Byrd vs. Raese race and the Callahan vs. Captio race does present interest.

The polls will open at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday at Calhoun's 10 precincts and will close at 7:30 p.m.

Election returns will be posted on the Herald as soon as they are available Tuesday evening.
