Jack D. Miller, 81 - Spencer

Jack D. Miller, 81, of Spencer, West Virginia, passed away Friday, October 27, 2006, at Roane General Hospital, Spencer, after a short illness.

He was born January 12, 1925, at Stover, Roane County, a son of the late Robert Irl and Pathena Pearl Durbin Miller. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Matthew; brothers Ted Miller and Maurice Miller; and sister, Phyllis Brake.

He was retired from Columbia Gas Company and was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church, Spencer. He served overseas in World War II in the 5th Armored Division, 85th Cavalry. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

He was a well-known square dance caller and co-founder of Starlite Squares, Charleston, WV. He was an avid reader of history, farmer and outdoorsman, with wood splitting being one of his favorite activities.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Alice Conley Miller, whom he was devoted to for 61 years; son, Jack Michael Miller of Huntington, WV; daughter, Lila Ann Gower of Richmond, VA; five grandchildren, Jay, Mike, and Scott Miller, and Justin and Sarah Krukiel.

A funeral service will be conducted Monday, October 30, 2006, at 10:00 a.m. in the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, WV, with Pastor Joe Heilman officiating. Burial with military graveside rites will be in the Mt. Lebanon Cemetery, Zona, WV.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday.
