CMS VOLLEYBALL DEFEATS GILMER

The Calhoun County Middle School Volleyball team wrapped up their season at Gilmer County on Wednesday, October 25.

The "B" team defeated Gilmer 25-21 in the 1st game before falling to Gilmer 19-25, 23-25 to lose the match. "B" team was led by Brooklyn Green with 10 points, 1 ace. Samantha Fulks added 7 points, 2 aces; Katelyn Collins 6 points, Kenzie Laughlin 5 points, Brittiny Miller 4 points and Kayla Cottrell 2 points, 1 ace.

Samantha Fulks was 9/10 setting and Brook Green was 4/5. From the attack line Brittiny Miller was 7/8 with 4 kills; Kenzie Laughlin was 4/4 with 1 kill; Katie Collins was 2/2 and Kayla Cottrell was 1/1. "B" team ended their season with an overall match record of 4-8.

Coming off their Conference Championship victory on Saturday, the Calhoun "A" team traveled to Glenville looking to avenge their only loss in regular season play. Gilmer had defeated Calhoun "A" at Mt. Zion on Sept 21, two games to one. At Gilmer, Calhoun only need two games to claim match victory. The first game was a 25-3 rout of Gilmer while Calhoun played from behind most of the second game. Calhoun was down 11-18 before battling back to tie the game at 24-24.

Following a Gilmer timeout, both teams traded points before Calhoun pulled out the win 28-26. Rochelle Gerwig led Calhoun "A" with 17 points, 4 aces. Ashley Houchin added 10 points, 1 ace; Savannah Church 4 points, Jordan Mace 3 points, Michelle Hall 2 points, 1 ace and Amber Wilford 2 points. Savannah Church was 10/10 setting and Amber Wilford was 6/6. From the attack line Jordan Mace was 8/8 with 1 kill; Michelle Hall was 2/4 with 2 kills; Karissa Reip was 1/3; and Ashley Houchin was 1/1.

Calhoun "A" ended their season with an overall match record of 17-2 which includes being undefeated in regular season conference play and claiming the 2006 CWVAC Volleyball Championship.
