RETIRED BUS DRIVER IN PARKERSBURG NURSING HOME

(10/20/2006)
Retired Calhoun school bus driver Clyde Smith, who has long suffered from breathing problems, is now a resident of Willows Nursing Home in Parkersburg.

Smith, who has resided on the lower West Fork below Cremo, is well-known to a generation of kids who rode his school bus on one of the county's most rural routes.

"It was a deal getting up and down Joker Hill during the winter," Smith said, usually putting on chains. The crooked and steep decline has several sharp turns. "We'd creep down it in low gear," Smith said.

"I really enjoyed the kids," he said, and had very few problems over the years.

Cards or letters can be sent to Smith at: Willows Nursing Home, 7223 Summers Street, Parkersburg WV 26101.
