The West Virginia 4-H All-Stars is an honorary organization that began in 1919. Becoming an All-Star is meant to be a life-long extension of one's 4-H career.

The organization is composed of older 4-H members and local 4-H club leaders who are selected for membership based on their life's record of achievement and service.

McCumbers was selected because he lives up to a motto of service.

He is the founder of the Pleasant Hill Elementary Cloverbud Club and has served as the organizational leader of this group of 1st and 2nd graders for two years.

In 2005-06, the club had 32 members and the group worked on Cloverbud project books and a variety of age appropriate activities.

McCumbers has been a long-time 4-H member and is presently a junior at Glenville State College, studying elementary education. He also has a background in criminal justice.

He has also served a second year as an Energy Express mentor, a volunteer fireman, a part time 911 dispatcher and a reading mentor for the Heads-Up after-school program.

He is the son of Dennis and Sandra McCumbers of Grantsville.
