More class action royalty suits filed

Two more class action lawsuits involving natural gas royalty payments have been filed in Roane Circuit Court.

The latest suits bring the total number of class action lawsuits filed in Roane County against gas companies to five.

North Coast Energy and East Resources are named as defendants in the suits filed last week.

The first suit filed in 2003 against Columbia Natural Resources has grown to involve more than 10,000 plaintiffs.

This summer two more class actions suits were filed including one against Equitable Production Co. and another involving Dominion Resources and its related companies.

The actions have been filed on behalf of all beneficiaries of oil and gas leases with the named companies.

Each of the lawsuits claim royalty owners have been cheated out of their fair share of proceeds from natural gas wells...
