ROSEDALE OPENS COMMUNITY RESPONSE CENTER

(10/18/2006)
The Village of Rosedale has officially opened the Rosedale Community Neighborhood Watch and Citizen Corps Council, Law Enforcement Substation and Emergency Services Center.

Say that in one breath.

The former boom town is primarily in Braxton, but its environs are in Gilmer, close to Calhoun, about 15-25 miles from the nearest responders.

Rosedale appears to have become a hotbed of illegal drug activity, at least for a rural community.

Nearly all of Braxton's official responders turned out for the ribbon cutting.

It was dedicated in Memory of Kenneth Wright, who was one of the founding members of the watch group.

Officials said the purpose of establishing the facility in Rosedale is to assist emergency services personnel when working in the area by providing a comfortable place to conduct business.

The center will have phone and Internet service, in addition to emergency supplies.

Two volunteers have become Citizen Emergency Response Team trainers, and have subsequently trained six additional volunteers in Rosedale who are now CERT volunteers.
