RESPECT AND PROTECT INDICATES IMPROVEMENT AT CALHOUN MIDDLE

Calhoun Middle School's "Respect and Protect" program to improve student responsibility and behavior appears to be making headway, according to CM-HS principal Karen Kirby.

Kirby and teacher Linda Jarvis gave a report to the school board Monday evening regarding the program, which was started at the beginning of the school year.

Kirby said she had received several e-mails and notes from parents expressing support for the program.

"It is not just a punishment program, but a way of rewarding students for good behavior," Kirby said, with the results showing up on report cards.

The principal said the teachers and staff are "on the same page" to be consistent and fair toward students.

"There has been marked improvement," according to Linda Jarvis.

Donnie Pitts, Director of Supportive Services, gave a maintenance and transportation report related to county-wide services.

The board went into an eight-minute executive session to discuss personnel issues.

The board approved volunteer agreements Heidi Allen - Arnoldsburg; Lorie Bailey - Arnoldsburg; Betty Ellison - Arnoldsburg; Gina Cano-Stump - Pleasant Hill; Jennifer Dennison - CMHS; Donna Schoolcraft - Arnoldsburg; Bessie Welch - Pleasant Hill; Janet Summers - Arnoldsburg.

An out-of-state conference request was approved for Donald Poage to attend the national FFA conference in Indiana.

The board approved the resignation of Misty King, and issued the following job postings:
