SCHOOL BOARD EXPELS TWO STUDENTS

(09/29/2006)
While the Calhoun school system is making some serious efforts to address discipline problems, particularly in Calhoun Middle School, the Calhoun Board of Education met Thursday night for a special meeting to expel two students.

The board did not indicate whether the students were from the middle or high school.

They voted unanimously to expel one of the students for the first semester with mandatory monthly drug testing through the end of the school year and maintenance or improvement of academic standing.

The second student was expelled for one calendar year, apparently related to a behavior or drug problem. The board voted unanimously.

The expulsions, with all board members present, were conducted in executive session.

The next meeting is scheduled for October 16 beginning at 7:00 p.m.
