(09/22/2006)
GLENVILLE - "Preserving and Responding" is the theme of the upcoming Presidential Inauguration at Glenville State College.

The official swearing in ceremony of Dr. Peter B. Barr is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, November 10, in the GSC Fine Arts Auditorium. The public is invited. Additional inaugural festivities are in the planning stages. More details will be announced soon.

Dr. Barr began serving as the twenty-third President of Glenville State on July 1. His many goals include increasing student enrollment, improving student retention, establishing a capital campaign in cooperation with the GSC Foundation, and working with the community to encourage economic growth. "The first couple months on the job have been two of the most exciting months of my life," Barr said.

Barr comes to Glenville State from Coastal Carolina University in Conway, South Carolina, where he was Provost and Senior Vice President serving as the school's Chief Academic Officer. A native of Huntington, WV and Marshall University graduate, Dr. Barr also holds a Master's Degree in Business Administration from Marshall. He subsequently received a Doctor of Business Administration from Louisiana Tech University.

Barr was among more than 70 candidates for the position. He replaced former Glenville State College President, Robert Freeman, who retired in June.
