GLENVILLE - West Virginia State Police released the names of victims of Saturday's ATV accident near Stouts Mills. Information is limited as the incident is still under investigation.

The couple injured in the crash were Ronnie and Zelda Golden of Glenville.

Mrs. Golden apparently ran into the back of her husband's 4-Wheeler and caused the accident, police said. No other ATVs were involved in the actual crash, police said.

She was thrown clear of the 4-Wheeler and is believed to have struck her head directly on the pavement.

Officials tending to her at the time of the accident, prior to paramedics arriving, believed she suffered extensive injuries.

Police confirmed Monday "She received severe head trauma," said Sgt. C.M. Alton of WVSP Glenville detachment.

She apparently underwent five hours of surgery at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, due to her head injuries, according to information provided to police.

Ronnie Golden may have injured three vertebrae in the crash.

As of Monday about noon, Ronnie Golden's condition has been upgraded to "fair." Zelda Golden's condition remains critical, according to a hospital media spokeswoman.

The couple were initially transported to Stonewall Jackson Hospital in Weston for treatment and later transferred to Morgantown.

There were approximately 254 riders participating in the charity ride to benefit Gilmer County's food pantry.

SrTrp R.P. Smith is heading the investigation for the West Virginia State Police.
