CRESTON INCIDENT SENDS MAN TO HOSPITAL - Thieves On Rampage

(09/12/2006)
Authorities appear to be unclear what happened in Creston yesterday, after a 911 call reported a shooting that turned out to be a man with a fractured leg.

The man was identified as Danny Ray Nichols. Nichols apparently showed up at a neighbors house in distress, which led to the 911 call. He was taken to a Parkersburg hospital.

The State Police and the Wirt County Sheriff's Department questioned one or more individuals about the incident, but no arrest was made yesterday.

Neighbors near the Creston Community Building indicated there was an "incident."

A spokesperson at the State Police detachment in Elizabeth verified there was no shooting, although unconfirmed reports indicated a leg wound related to an ax.

Thieves have been striking in the greater Creston area, in addition to Monroe Ridge, Spring Creek and Sanoma.

A Toyota belonging to Glennie Edward Arthur was stolen and driven to Roane County where it was wrecked.

Tools have been stolen from at least three vehicles, including a billfold, cash, credit cards and a driver's license.
