WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN YOU HEAR A RATTLIN' SOUND?

(08/03/2006)

Pictured is Ivan Holbert's 42" rattler (left) held by John Newell (right)

Calhoun, in times past has been known for rattlesnakes. Tales abound about the reptiles from the Bear Fork wilderness to Rattlesnake Knob, a short distance from the faded village of Joker.

But this week at least two rattlers have been killed in northern Calhoun, the first by Ivan Holbert near Hartley and the second by Mike Sims of Yellow Creek.

Holbert killed his 42" rattler near a gas well operation, running over it with his truck, and Sims killed his 40" rattler on Yellow Creek. Both had eight rattlers plus a button.
