MORE CHARGES FILED AGAINST WIRT ARSONISTS

(07/30/2006)
The 19-year-old Wirt County teens accused of setting a fire inside Roberts' Store in Elizabeth appeared in magistrate court last week for preliminary hearings on additional arson charges.

They reportedly admitted entering the store on June 14 to commit burglary, and then set fire to be building to cover their tracks.

The fire destroyed several other buildings and heavily damaged nearby structures.

Willie Trembly Jr., 19, and Jerod Evans, 19, appeared before Wirt County Magistrate David Roberts. Evans waived his preliminary hearing on three additional charges of second-degree arson.

Trembly's case was continued to July 28 due to an illness suffered by his attorney, Kevin B. Postalwait, court records said. Postalwait's doctor advised him to be off work until July 17.

Evans' case will be bound over to a grand jury.

If found guilty, each man could face 1-10 years in the state penitentiary on the initial breaking and entering charge and 1-10 years in the state penitentiary on each of the second-degree arson charges.
