GSC LADY PIONEER BASKETBALL CAMPS UNDERWAY

(07/04/2006)
The 2006 Glenville State College Lady Pioneer Basketball Individual Camps tipped off this past week. Session I of three, held from June 28-July 2, drew 74 girls from grades 4-12. Over 20 staffers worked the camp, which was conducted at both Glenville State College and Gilmer County High School.

The format for the camp consisted of fundamental stations in the mornings, followed by a variety of competitions including free throw shooting, hot shot, knockout, a 3-on-3 tournament, and 5-on-5 league games. Campers were divided into 2 groups --- grades 4-7 comprised the NCAA I league and grades 8-12 made up the WNBA division.

Glenville State College Lady Pioneer Head Coach Steve Harold was extremely pleased with Session I of his three summer basketball camps. He added: "I am especially pleased with the large turnout of campers for Session I with its completion falling on the Fourth of July holiday weekend. I attribute this to our camp being recognized for developing fundamentals and for offering a knowledgeable, passionate, hard working, and caring staff."

With Session I in the books, the Glenville State College Lady Pioneer staff and team would like to extend a special thanks to Denny and Cindy Pounds and the local McDonald's, Ike and Sue Morris, Waco Oil & Gas, and Flying W Plastics for their sponsorship of the 2006 Individual Camps. In addition, we thank our patrons of the camp and the many individuals and businesses that assisted in its operation, including Glenville Foodland and Pizza Hut.

If your child was unable to attend Session I, limited camper slots are available for the remaining two sessions, which will be conducted from July 5-9 and July 19-23.

Also, a few slots remain for the July 11-14 Youth Camp for boys & girls age 5 to 8. For more information on the camps and registration, you may contact Coach Steve Harold at (304) 462-7361, Ext. 7221, or you may download an application from the College athletic website at www.glenville.edu.
