WV STRIKES SIX-MONTH RECORD FOR ATV DEATHS

(07/03/2006)
WV has struck an all-time record of ATV deaths for six months.

Records indicate a Ritchie County death Sunday, making 31 for the year, but some newspapers say 28.

Brandy West was a passenger on an ATV that left the roadway and struck a tree in the Petroleum area.

Authorities say alcohol was a factor in the accident.

West was transported to an area hospital, where she died.

The driver, Tracy West, was also transported to the hospital for treatment of his injuries.

A White Pine man was injured early early Sunday morning after he was thrown from his ATV. Emergency services responded at 1 a.m. to an area near the Cherry Fork UM Church, taking the victim to Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center.
