GHERKE HAS BIG SHOES TO FILL

(07/07/2006)

Craig Gherke is Grantsville's new fire chief

Craig Gherke, a 28-year-native of the county, has served the community for the past 10 years as a volunteer fireman and six years as an EMT for Calhoun EMS.

"The chief's job is pretty big shoes to fill," said Gherke, "I hope that I can fill them like the chiefs in the past, with the help from my Assistant Chief and my Captain and my fellow firemen, I'm hopeful."

Gherke said the department is always in need of volunteers.

Other new officers: Assistant Chief Dave Johnson; Captain-Training Officer Steve Heath; Secretary Jacob McCumbers; and Treasurer Richard Kirby.

Members selected to the board: Dave Johnson, Steve Heath, and Jim Yoak.

The department is reminding area residents if they need water hauled, call 354-6566 and leave a message. Water is hauled on a first call, first served basis.
