NOBE NOCKBUSTERS DISCONTINUE OPERATION - "We Fought Tooth And Nail"

(06/24/2006)
A longtime Calhoun archery group has permanently closed their operations.

The Nobe Nockbusters, which was started in the 1970s, will not complete their summer and fall schedule of archery events.

The club says that lack of interest and participation has led to the decision.

Four shoots on the schedule have been canceled.

Member Kenny Sampson said "Over the years several hundred shooters participated in the club, many of them highly successful," mentioning Tony McCumbers, Cam Nicholas and Chris McCormick, among many others.

"We fought tooth and nail to keep it going," said Sampson, indicating the group lacked young people with interest and time has been a real draw-back.

The closing of the Nockbusters is among many other civic, service and volunteer endeavors that are rapidly going by the wayside in the county.

The club has expressed their appreciation to those who have supported the group over many years.
