OLD PHILLIPS RUN BARN GETS NEW LIFE

(06/17/2006)

Old barn gets new life on Phillip's Run

Kevin Richards puts finishing touches on stone work next to inside heater

It's been a three year project, converting an old Phillips Run barn to a house.

"We're on a break from work and hope to get it done by September," said owner Ronnie Brown of Florida, who is married to Calhoun native Rosemary Stull.

Brown says its mostly been a weekend and vacation time project, but lots of folks have pitched in, including the Stull family "which involves a pretty big clan around here."

The old barn was originally part of the Frame farm, and was converted to a dwelling many years ago. "It was really a pretty 'rough' house, now we're doing a complete interior-exterior job," Brown said.

Yesterday, the work started early, but the good news was the home-cooked food prepared on an outside stone fireplace.

The Brown's hope to have an open house when the project is completed.
