Charles E. Murray, 87, formerly of Huntington, passed away Tuesday, May 30, 2006, in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital, Ashland, Ky.

Graveside services will be conducted 10 a.m. Thursday, June 1, 2006, at Highland Cemetery, Huntington, with Pastor Keith Leap officiating.

Mr. Murray was born July 23, 1918, in Parkersburg W.Va., a son of the late Charles Ervin Murray Sr. and Lucille Belle Murray. Also preceding him in death was a sister, Betty Cattram.

He graduated from Parkersburg High School at the age of 16, worked as an accountant, was an IRS agent and was a member of Highlawn United Methodist Church for more than 50 years. He served as the city finance director for both Parkersburg and Huntington, was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Lions Club and was the owner/operator of a Chevrolet dealership in Grantsville, W.Va., and a Ford dealership in Ashland, Ky.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Katherine Davis Murray; one son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Peter M. and Pam Murray of Jacksonville, Fla.; one sister, Jackie Miller of Spencer, W.Va.; a cousin, Jo Ann Murray of Columbus, Ohio; and a niece, Debbie Focht of Fort Myers, Fla. He also leaves behind a host of other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in Charles' memory to WVU School of Medicine, P.O. Box 9008 Morgantown, WV 26506. Make checks payable to WVUF School of Medicine. There will be no visitation. Chapman's Mortuary, Huntington, is in charge of arrangements.
