COMMISSION HEARS AUDIT REPORT

The Calhoun Commission heard the annual audit report yesterday from the State Auditor's Office, which made numerous recommendations regarding management of the county's finances. the auditor said the county was in much better shape than last year.

The commission took no action regarding the future of the county employee's handbook, opting to review its' purpose with elected officials and a three-member handbook committee.

Commission president Larry McCallister said Calhoun Banks has agreed to remodeled and lease the Khoury Building on Main Street in Grantsville for offices needed for the state's Family Court.

The commission will be responsible for providing janitorial services to the building.

McCallister said the county is required by mandate to provide quarters for the court, the signatures on the lease agreement are pending.

The commission has received a $13,250 grant to provide security to the building.

There was a discussion regarding concerns of law enforcement coverage for the county, an item that is expected to be re-visited at the next commission meeting.

The 911 report indicated the new radio tower is waiting to be galvanized, a process which has been slowed down after thousands of orders following last fall's hurricane season.

The replacement of the windows in the main courthouse is expected to continue this week, with about six days before completion of the project, using a $56,000 grant.

Diane Ludwig gave a report regarding the Little Kanawha Area Development Corporation.

Budget revisions were approved, in addition to approval of bonds, bills and wills.

The next regular meeting is scheduled for July 10th at 9 a.m.
