Rev. Donald Stilgenbauer brought the message at the Burning Springs M. E. church as part of the pulpit exchange program. He also sang as did the Hurst family. Those at the service were treated to a special treat for when Mary Griffin Newton arrived late for Sunday School she played the piano and sang a special selection.

She and sons, along with Nathan Belt and Gae Park attended the Griffin reunion at Arnoldsburg.

Tommy Vandal age 59 passed away. He was a son of the late Bill Vandal and Opal Wise Vandal. He reported for work that morning but said he didn't feel well. He was taken to the hospital where he lived only an hour.

Ray Tanner passed away. The son of Ulysses Claiborne Tanner he was known by many as the used tire disposal man. He was also a nephew of local legend Sammy Allen.

Haymaking weather has been interrupted locally with a rainy period. For those who beat the rain, the second cutting should come back up quickly.

Amy N. Ferrell has been having trouble with her root canal and has been consulting the dental experts.

Anna Engelke, Jess, Dena and Keith visited the Kings Dominion amusement park at Doswell Virginia.

A number of local residents attended the Wood Festival at Grantsville.

Virgil Maze, Casper Shuman and Ted Menefee were among those attending to business in Creston over the weekend.

Ted Grim from Erie Pennsylvania came down for the big community auction and visited area relatives and friends. There was a good crowd at the event, lots of folks took home bargains with the saying that "one man's trash is another man's treasure." The community would like to thank all who donated and those who came to buy. Bobby Ray Starcher donated his auctioneering services for the event and that was appreciated also. Rosie & Ellen fetched some special desserts for the kitchen that were enjoyed by those who like fine food.

After two weeks of rain the sun came out Sunday May 28 for the Shimer reunion and the Creston Community Building was the perfect place to have it as it is clean, cozy & comfortable. The folks have all worked together and they have a really nice place with plenty of parking & everything. Our folks came from far & near to meet with relatives. We had people from Washington state, Illinois, North Carolina and lots from Ohio. Those who signed the book were Bat Bower, Don & Polly Boltz, Donald Boltz, jr. & daughter Andrea, Clayton & Wendy Brown, Ruby & George Bingman, Jr., Evelyn, Michelle, Rachel, Alan Bowman, Suellen Butcher, Jay & Maryln Craft, Barbara, Elizabeth and Danie Cooper, Deloris & Maxine Davis, Charline & Logan Fordice, Layden Fordice, Neal & Faye Kramer, Vergie Lemasters, Kathy &Don Pritchard, James & Betty Shimer, Wilbur Shimer, Matthew & Dana Shimer, Adrianne & Samantha Shimer, David & Karen Shimer, Jerry Shortridge, Duane Stalnaker, Sue & Jackie Stalnaker, Dave Stalnaker, Terry & Kathy Stutler, Willard Dewaine Stutler, Rebecca & Hope Starcher, Bessie Arthur. The other evening when one fellow was coming home after dark from Spencer he saw two whippoorwills along the road. For some reason they have become very scarce locally.

Carl Ferrell had a tree full of cherries that were turning red enough to make fine pies but now they are all gone. It was noted that the waxwings came to the big mulberry tree in the Creston News writer's lawn.

The price of local crude oil rose $2/bbl over the weekend to $68.25/bbl.

Rose Morrison, who is the local columnist for the Newark community, was visiting friends in the Creston area.
