GLENVILLE MC DONALD'S MANAGER AND OWNER SUED

(05/25/2006)
By Drew Moody
For the Hur Herald

Glenville McDonald's owner Denny J. Pounds and one of his managers face continuing action in a civil lawsuit filed in Gilmer County Circuit Court.

The female plaintiff, of Glenville, a former McDonald's employee, charges in the lawsuit that she was sexually harassed and abused in the workplace there.

She accuses Pounds of doing nothing to stop the continued abuse against her, and thereby implicates him equally in the matter.

She has asked for unspecified damages.

Attorneys for Pounds and the second defendant unequivocally deny all the charges made against their clients.

The lawsuit was initially filed over a year ago, but it only recently came to the attention of The Hur Herald.

In addition to sexual harassment and abuse charges, the plaintiff alleges Pounds and the manager intentionally caused her continuing emotional distress.

She asserts in court papers that she was "subjected to unwelcome and offensive conduct of a sexual nature" in the workplace.

That included, she said, the manager touching her on various parts of her body and placing his hand up her shirt.

The woman alleges the manager said, "he was her boss and could do whatever he wanted." And that "he owned her" because she had a job.

She quit her job rather than tolerating the abuse against her, court papers said.

Pounds and the manager are scheduled to travel to Charleston June 5 for depositions in the case.

Tentatively the trial date has been set for February of next year.

The Hur Herald wishes to remind readers only a jury can determine innocence or guilt in a matter before the court.

This is a civil litigation. No criminal charges have been filed in the case.
