ROANE WOMAN CHARGED WITH MURDER IN DRUG OVERDOSE

(05/25/2006)
Woman charged with murder in drug overdose

By David Hedges Publisher
Times Record-Roane County Reporter

A second person will face murder charges in the death of a Reedy man who died of a drug overdose.

Tiffany Keeney, 25, of Spencer was indicted on charges of murder, possession of methadone with intent to deliver and delivery of a controlled substance by a Roane Grand Jury Tuesday.

The charges relate to the March 2004 death of Keeney's boyfriend, Benjamin Murray. Police said the two shared a home on Reedyville Road and went to sleep in the hot tub after what was described as a night of partying.

When Keeney awoke the 18-year-old Murray was not breathing. He was pronounced dead on arrival at Roane General Hospital.

An autopsy determined he died from a combination of drugs including methadone, diazepam and morphine complicated by drowning.

Another person who had been at the house that night, Cristal Coon, 24, of Spencer, also was charged with murder. She ended up entering a plea to involuntary manslaughter, a misdemeanor, and two felony drug charges.

Coon was sentenced to a year on the involuntary manslaughter charge and 1-to-15 years on the drug charges.

Keeney is slated to appear in Roane Circuit Court today (Thursday) to be arraigned on the indictment.
