BLANKENSHIP WILL PARTICIPATE IN GOVERNOR'S SCHOOL FOR THE ARTS

(05/24/2006)
CHS student and 2006 graduate, Briana Blankenship, has been accepted to the Governor's School for the Arts (GSA) scheduled for Marshall University July 2-23,2006.

Briana was one of only 80 students selected through a rigorous application process involving 250 applicants. Briana's audition on her trumpet was held January, 2006 at East Fairmont High School.

GSA is a 3-week residential program providing individual and in-depth group instruction in the arts for current high school sophomores living in and attending school in WV.

A lively schedule of classes, special programming and an extended field trip are among the activities scheduled.

Artistic areas addressed are creative writing, dance, instrumental music, theatre, visual art and vocal music. Skilled artists-teachers will work with students who demonstrate potential in these areas.

This year Briana has exhibited a strong commitment to her personal development as a musician through the various awards and honors she has received, including superior rating at the Regional Solo-Ensemble Festival, solo performance at the State Music Educators Conference, WVU High School Honor Band Member, solo performance at the Marshall Trumpet Fest, a member of the WV All-State Band (the first from CCHS since early 1980), and various solo and duet performances.

Briana is a private student of Mr. Harry Rich, professor emeritus, GSC.
