Eight members of the Calhoun High School class of 2006 were recognized as honor graduates at the seventh Annual Honor Graduates Program at CM-HS Monday evening.

Those students gave honors to Calhoun High teachers who contributed to their successful years at the school.

Calhoun High principal Mike Offutt (pictured left with Superintendent Ron Blankenship) said "We are honoring the best of the best, the students who have reached the highest levels of academic achievement among the Class of 2006."

Offutt said recognizing the students is of paramount importance, including those who have contributed to their academic careers, parents and honored teachers.

Adrienne Brown honored Pam Bartlett, Hannah Conley honored Susan Pitts, Mitch Cunningham honored Tambree Yoak, Josh Hanshaw honored Tim Brown, Katie Walker honored Larry Harris, Caitlin Weaver honored Faye Chambers, Cassandra Westfall honored Phyllis Evans and Erica Wriston honored Deb Goff.

Master of Ceremonies Karen Kirby introduced Judge David W. Nibert (pictured left) of the Fifth Judicial Circuit, who was the guest speaker. Nibert reminded the honor students of the accomplishments of "West Virginia kids" who went on to make important accomplishments to society. He said "Never let anyone 'put you down' because you're from West Virginia," delivering a long list of famous WV "kids."

Nibert, a native of Mason County, became a judge in 2001, after practicing law for 28 years.

Principal Offutt and Superintendent Blankenship presented ribbons and awards to the honor graduates following a special banquet, which was sponsored by Minnie Hamilton Health Care, Calhoun Banks and the Grantsville Lions Club.
