LOWERS IMPROVING AFTER HEART SURGERY - "A Guy Who Always Shows Up"

(07/16/2001)
Chloe resident Sonny Lowers, 62, is recovering from a heart attack and open heart surgery. Lowers was taken to Charleston Memorial Hospital on July 6 by Calhoun EMS suffering from numbness and chest pain. Physicians said he had a heart attack.

Lowers is one of the Upper West Fork VFD's busiest volunteers, a guy that always shows up to help. He had responded to several emergency calls shortly before his heart attack.

Family members report he is improving after five bypasses. He is expected to be discharged from Charleston Memorial this week.

Lowers is one of the principal organizers of the fire department's annual bluegrass festival August 9 through 11. The UWVFD event is rapidly becoming one of Calhoun's biggest summer attractions, with bluegrass fans coming in from all parts of the country for the music and fireworks.
