BUS TRIP COSTS ON BOARD'S AGENDA TONIGHT - Superintendent's Hire Will Be Discussed

(05/15/2006)
The Differentiated Reimbursement Schedule for School Bus Trips is an item on the agenda for the Calhoun County Board of Education meeting Monday evening, along with considering the approval of the superintendent's contract.

The super's contract is likely linked to extending Ron Blankenship's employment for another year.

Also on the agenda is a personnel issue related to voting on the suspension of an employee.

The controversy regarding the school system requiring payment for extra-curricular transportation expenses for transporting students on school buses to sports and other events could come to a head.

Such groups already pay for a bus driver.

The money issue is linked to the high cost of gasoline, but opponents of the current policy say the school system eventually gets reimbursed 90% anyway, and at least one of the booster groups desires to pay the 10% differential.

Opponents to the current policy claim it is a form of double-dipping.

Most of the current school board members have said they do not want to charge the transportation costs to school groups.

The board will also consider a Wellness Policy for the school system and will consider approving a senior trip to Cedar Point, Sandusky, Ohio.

Under personnel, the board has items for job postings, employee suspension, transfers, and employment.

The meeting starts at 7 p.m. at the board office.
