There will be an auction Saturday May 6, starting at 6 P. M. at the Creston Community Building. There will be all sorts of goodies including cheese, pepperoni some special local delicacies. Everyone is invited and it likely would be a good time to stock up on cheese for the summer as it freezes well.

Arthur F. "Bud" Rose, son of Russell and Mildred Nutter Rose, passed away. Burial was in the Nutter addition to the McCray (Snyder) graveyard at Creston.

Jeff & Jackie Sue Boggs Blair are the parents of a baby girl, Kylee Sue who was born last Thursday evening. Grandparents are Jack & Connie Boggs of Creston and Tim & Charlotte Blair of Annamoriah.

There were several on hand for the customer appreciation day at the Creston post office. Both Ida and Margie baked cookies for the customers.

Mr. & Mrs. Carl Ferrell were attending to business in Brooksville.

Jason Balis was calling on old friends in the Creston area.

The "Katzenjammer" Kids were calling in the Creston area recently. "Jammer" shot a turkey and while he was filling out the DNR tag it got up and ran away. He searched to no avail but when he returned to his favorite restaurant in Elizabeth he found his "turkey" with a bandage on his head and another on his wing perched up on the counter for all to see. "Katz" got a fine gobbler in his sights but he hadn't checked out the terrain very well so his shot brought up a big cloud of dirt. This even confused the wily turkey so he stood still while our marksman reloaded. This time he bagged his gobbler. While this pair which somewhat resemble the famous Hans & Fritz are sportsmen, it seems that some were not. The first shot opening morning sounded like a 22 and it is likely that a gobbler fell from the roost.

It is understood that the fishermen haven't been doing very well and folks are asking "Have you heard if anyone raised a big muskie?"

The government's autumn olive is in bloom, pets have been picking up wood ticks and the Japanese stilt grass, a nasty invasive pest, is up and growing as are the USDA's multiflora rose bushes. The Asiatic beetles still have to be swept up from residences, churches, etc. One would think that with Jimmy Carter's public reputation of caring he would come around and gather up the pests he introduced.

Rev. Carlos Nutter filled his regular appointment at the Burning Springs M. E. church and served Holy Communion. Cooter and Sis Marks provided special music; the boys were in Tennessee.

The illegal aliens are planning a big demonstration for the communist May Day. They are being organized by forces that very likely to not have America's best interests in mind. Some feel that the wetbacks can go right back where they came from if things don't suit them here. Of course, then, many who choose not to work now would have to become gainfully employed to take up the slack. Of course the alien criminal element doesn't want to leave because south of the border prisons are real and the lily livered liberals aren't about to check to see if the color tee vee, air conditioning, hot showers, etc. work.

The price of local Penn grade crude was $68/bbl Saturday.

Penn Virginia is in the area leasing the No. 2 gas coal in Calhoun County for coal bed methane. The No. 2 gas is about 1400 feet down up at the head of the West Fork. The lease forms call for royalties to be paid net and there is no provision for free gas. No doubt better terms are available.

Mother Hope (Dominion) fixed a leak in their line on Creston hill one day last week. A new clamp joined a couple of old ones to stop the escape of valuable natural gas, or at least it is valuable when customers buy it from Mountaineer. Their brochure says they pay $13/MCF for stripped gas and then there is a $2.83/MCF delivery charge. Some producers sell their natural gas wholesale for 20 cents/MCF so some do quite well.

Anna, Jane, & Nancy Engelke, along with Kristina Snider, motored to Baltimore to attend the 2006 USA Pageant as 3 young women they know were competing in the event. Samantha Holvey, granddaughter of former delegates Billy & Marge Burk, represented North Carolina, Jessica Wedge of Evans represented West Virginia while Stacy Offenberger of Marietta represented Ohio. Stacy ended up 3rd runner-up in the national contest. There were many celebrities present including Donald Trump, Drew Lachey, Nancy O'Dell and Hines Ward. At the after party Jane & Kristina had their picture taken with Carson Kressley, star of Tee Vee's Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.

On Saturday Jane & Kristina took a trip on Amtrak to New York City. Despite a very cold rain they shopped, first buying two coats each and an umbrella before completing some "fashion crimes" on Canal Street. They ate in "Little Italy" and enjoyed makeovers at the M. A. C. makeup counter.

They missed the train back by 30 seconds and had to spend half the night in Penn Station awaiting the "next train" back to Baltimore.

Anna & Nancy chose to go to the National Aquarium in Baltimore. The frogs & dolphins were favorites. They attended a 45-minute dolphin show. The variety of fish, the colors and artistry are beyond awesome. In addition the coral reefs are a painting beyond description. What a wonderful creator we have! Anna & Nancy also went book shopping as some of their favorite authors have new books available.

Alvin and Nancy Engelke attended the Miss Teen American preliminary at Cahoun/Middle High School Saturday evening. There were 7 very talented teens competing and all did a wonderful job. The Brownie Girl won people's choice and Miss Congeniality. Alvin is still wondering where his brownies are. Chelsey Ball was 1st Runner up and won the talent portion of the competition. Leslie Garrett won the title of Teen and will compete in Morgantown in June for the title of Miss Teen West Virginia America.

Jane and Nancy Engelke motored to Elkins for the Miss Teen, Ms. and Mrs. United States pageants on Sunday afternoon. Their good friend, Erica Goldsmith of Mineral Wells won the title of Miss Teen United States. She will compete this fall in Las Vegas for the Title of Miss Teen United States.
