MAN CRITICALLY SHOT NEAR MUNDAY ROAD - Trooper Jeff Hunt Injured When Cruiser Crashes

9 AM - A man was seriously injured after being shot near Munday, Wirt County, early Sunday morning, at what was reported to be a party.

Calhoun EMS dispatched an ambulance to the area, but the victim was taken to Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center in Grantsville, where he was later life-flighted by HealthNet to Charleston Area medical Center.

William Vandal, Jr., about 20, reportedly the shooting victim, is still under evaluation at CAMC. Souces said Vandal was shot in the chest area near his arm.

State Police in Wirt County are reportedly preparing a warrant on the shooter.

Trooper 1st Class Jeff Hunt was injured responding to the incident, which uncofirmed sources said was in a remote area near a cabin.

His cruiser wrecked on Munday Road at 1:45 a.m. and was taken to Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center, where he was admitted for treatment of lacerations, possible other injuries and for further evaluation.

Calhoun 911 received the initial call at 12:57 a.m., the caller said that a person came to their door, wanting help, saying "my brother has been shot."
