(04/09/2006)
Six WV county school systems will share more than $695,000 dollars in federal ERate funding to help schools provide Internet access.

Calhoun County has received the smallest amount $19,200, with Wayne County receiving the highest $202,471.

US Senator Jay Rockeller announced the funding yesterday.

The other grants were $157,083 for Braxton County, $134,465 for Putnam County, $108,396 for Wyoming County and $74,153 for Jackson County.

The ERate program provides funding to schools and libraries to help pay for Internet service.

Rockefeller says the program gives rural areas access to the same technology that urban areas have.
