SIGNS OF THE TIMES - Local candidates are
seeking votes by posting signs around the county

Campaigning in Calhoun has ended and today is primary election.

Polls open at 6:30 a.m. and close at 7:30 p.m.

There are contested races for county commissioner and for the school board.

Voter turn-out is predicted to be small, according to the Secretary of State's office.

The county's registered voting numbers have remained about the same, according to County Clerk Richard Kirby.

Kirby said there are 5,296 voters in the county, with 3,465 registered Democrats and 1,220 Republicans, the remaining registrants are with other parties.

"In Calhoun, there has been little shifting in registration," he said.

While some counties are still having problems getting their touch-screen voting computers ready, Calhoun has been ahead of the problem, Kirby said.

The Herald will post results as soon as they are available.
