Jake Krack, Calhoun County's well-known young fiddler, will be awarded the Red Foley Memorial Music Award at Berea College, Kentucky on April 27.

The Red Foley Award, established in 1970, recognizes talented Berea students for their musical contribution to the social life of the campus community.

It was established in memory of country music star Foley, who attended the Berea Academy School, and was initiated by E.E. Siman, Jr., Foley's long-time friend and manager.

The award is intended to help the recipient in a professional music career, promoting the kind of music associated with Foley's career, such as folk, country, bluegrass, gospel and popular music.

Jake is currently a junior at Berea College. In January 2006 he completed an internship at the Smithsonian Folklife Archives in Washington DC.

Jake participated in producing a traditional fiddle CD on the Smithsonian Folkways label and will be listed as co-producer on the project.

Also while in DC he attended the Alan Lomax Symposium held at the Library of Congress for scholars and music archivists.

Jake has also released two new CDs as of May of 2005, one with the Whoopin-Hollar Stringband and titled "Git-er Done", and the other with the Hog Hollar String Band titled "The Great Compromise."
