to be used by Calhoun County for Primary Election

Overcoming computer programing errors in the official ballot has been a challenge in all of WVs 55 counties, but Calhoun County Clerk Richard Kirby has been persevering in getting the corrected versions.

Thirty-four counties in WV have gone to touch-screen computer voting, each precinct in Calhoun will have three machines.

A test yesterday with the county commissioners and other officials present proved successful.

The official ballot was installed, apparently with one remaining glitch related to an audio program for the hearing impaired.

Kirby said he would be the first person to officially vote on the new system, saying "Right now, things look good."

Wednesday was the first day for early voting, and 11 individuals cast their votes on paper ballots.

A final stamp of approval for all the computerized voting machines is scheduled for next Thursday.

Kirby said "Calhoun is likely ahead of most counties in moving ahead with the machines." There have been lots of problems connected to the official ballot program from a company contracted by the state.
