(04/09/2006)

Calhoun's third ATV accident within less than a week turned fatal Sunday afternoon.

A member of Calhoun County High School's junior class died a short time after his four-wheeler went out of control in the Spring Run-Road Run area of Arnoldsburg.

The youth, who was reported to be about 17, was thrown from the ATV about 1:30 p.m. today.

His name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Calhoun EMS and the Arnoldsburg VFD responded to the accident on the rural road off State Route 16, a few miles from the Arnoldsburg Elementary School.

Health Net from Charleston Area Medical Center landed at the Arnoldsburg Park within minutes of the accident, while emergency personnel continued to administer treatment to the victim who was reportedly suffering from multiple trauma.

The life-flight was aborted after the youth's vital signs were not responsive.

Calhoun County Sheriff Carl Ballengee was summoned to the scene.
