Firemen use a turret gun to shoot water across Steer Creek

Fire spread rapidly across a field next to Steer Creek about 3:30 p.m. yesterday, causing three Volunteer Fire Departments to be called to the scene.

The fire, located on or near the Riley property, was a short distance from the intersection of US 33-119 and State Rt. 7 at Stumptown.

The blaze was brought under control in short order.

The Grantsville VFD responded with Arnoldsburg and Gilmer departments.
