UNITED METHODIST MISSION HAS HELPED MANY - Now You Can Help The Mission

(03/28/2006)

Since 1962 the Minnora Methodist Mission has helped a lot of people throughout the years.

The Mission, located at Minnora, is now facing some real challenges to continue their outreach to the community.

The insurance and heating bills have gone beyond the income of the center, and financial help is desperately needed.

The Calhoun County United Methodist Cooperative Parish was an effort to combine all the United Methodist Churches in Calhoun together to do mission ministries in the county.

Since the beginning of the cooperative, the Calhoun Parish Mission, was opened on January 24, 1995. It was established to help those in the county and the surrounding areas that struggle with unemployment.

Since it opened it has been located at four sites. The first rental site was sold after eight months, and the second site had snakes roaming through the store.

The third site had a bathroom but no running water.

In 2000, with the help of many grants and volunteers, the fourth and current mission building was built on property that is owned by several of the United Methodist Churches in the county.

The land was given to the parish and the mission without cost as long as they were responsible for the cost and maintenance of the building.

The mission is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10-4.

Those who wish to send financial support for the mission may mail checks to : Minnora Methodist Mission, P.O. Box 111, Orma, WV 25268.

There is also a donation box at the mission.

"May God bless each of you and pray that the mission will prosper," says Pastor Mary Zimmer.
