COMMISSION GETS GRANT FOR COURTHOUSE WINDOW REPLACEMENT

(03/08/2006)
The Calhoun Commission has received a Courthouse Facilities Improvement Grant to begin the replacement of old windows.

The grant is for $45,000 with the county coming up with another $11,000 for the project.

It's not any too soon, with the heating bill for the courthouse hitting $6,500 during December.

Much of the heat is escaping through the 70-some windows in the building, all single pane.

Nearly all are the original widows.

The down-side is the grant will likely pay for only one-third of the window replacement.

Last year the commission received a facilities grant to upgrade the TV camera monitoring system and install a security lock system on the courthouse doors.
