DOMINION HOPE IS SOLD TO EQUITABLE

(03/03/2006)
Dominion is selling two natural gas utilities serving more than 473,000 customers in Pennsylvania and West Virginia to Equitable Resources of Pittsburgh.

The sale is being made for $970 million dollars.

Dominion Hope, based in Clarksburg, serves more than 116,000 customers in north-central West Virginia, including several in Calhoun County.

Pittsburgh-based Dominion Peoples serves about 357,000 customers.

Union president of Local 69, Charlie Rittenhouse, says the new owner has agreed to honor existing labor contracts. He said the union is scheduled to meet with the new owner sometime next week.

The two utilities represent less than 12 percent of Richmond, Virginia-based Dominion's four million customers.

The actual closing of the deal could take some time.
