STATE POLICE INVESTIGATING GRANTSVILLE POLICE CHIEF

(02/28/2006)
The West Virginia State Police are investigating alleged problems associated with Grantsville Police chief Ron Gordon.

The nature of the investigation has not been disclosed.

The investigation is reportedly being conducted by special officers from State Police headquarters in South Charleston.

The City Police office was locked last Friday following Gordon's suspension.

Grantsville mayor Wilbert Kerby said police coverage for the Town of Grantsville will be provided by the State Police and the Calhoun Sheriff's Department, in absence of the town's single law enforcement officer.

Mayor Kerby said his suspension statement "is the only statement I'll make about this," apparently until the outcome of an investigation.

Gordon was also suspended from his position as Calhoun's monitoring officer for home confinement, according to Sheriff Carl Ballengee, who said he would make no further statements about the matter for now.

The terms of the suspension have not been made public.
