"We want the community to know we're here and working for the Lord," said pastor Will Finley of the new Sycamore Baptist Church, just off Rt. 16 near Calhoun-Middle High School.

The independent Baptist group is starting its third year. "We are a new church in the old church building," said Finley. The entire structure has been renovated, making it a comfortable place to worship.

"Lots of folks don't seem to know we are here," said parishioner Gene Satterfield, "We really want to help this community and be a part of it."

"This church has an old history, but we really are a new beginning," said Pastor Finley.

This Sunday there will be a special speaker at 11 a.m., Pastor Burl Former of Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada, who will be accompanied by his family singers. Sunday school starts at 10 a.m.

This past year the church held a revival and a vacation Bible school.

Diana Satterfield said the church is planning on having an open house, welcoming members of other churches and community residents.

"We want to be an important part of Christian community life, a beacon and friend to our neighbors," said Satterfield.

Pastor Finley said "Stop by a visit us."

Services are also held Thursday evening at 6 p.m.
