The Massey Energy power odyssey over a silo built next to a Raleigh County school seems never-ending.

Now, the state has rejected an air quality permit change for Massey, which is operating the silo beside the Marsh Fork Elementary School.

The company had sought permission to increase the amount of coal dust released into the air.

Last year the state Department of Environmental Protection rejected the company's request to build a second coal storage silo at the site, angering Massey chieftain Don Blankenship, who then sued Gov. Joe Manchin and others following the denial.

A site map discovered by a Charleston newspaper showed the silo was actually built too close to the school.

Blankenship leads a political action group called "For the Sake of Children."

Former Calhoun principal Donnie Price is principal of the school.

Lurking above the school is a pond which contains millions of gallons of sludge.
